Students in Grades 1 through 8 have a weekly art class. They are encouraged to express themselves while creativity is fostered. The fundamentals of drawing are taught, as well as proper use of various art media. Many different techniques are demonstrated and taught in a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

In the primary grades, instruction is focused on developing manual dexterity, simple art concepts, and having fun! In grades 4 and 5 the focus is on 3 dimensional drawing concepts, line, shadow, perspective, shading, etc. Grade 6 continues to build on drawing skills, and much time is spent on Cross-curricular art projects for Social Studies International Fair.

By the time the students are in 7th and 8th grade, their skills are highly developed. They learn new techniques and media while producing very accomplished works of art.

Art is very important in helping the brain reach its full potential. It introduces the brain to diverse cognitive skills that help us unravel intricate problems. Art activates the creative part of our brain - the part that works without words and can only express itself non-verbally. Art, in thought and through the creative processes, activates the imaginative and creative side, the spatial and intuitive side of our brain. Art jumps over the process of linear and logical thinking. It trains the brain to shift into thinking differently, of broaching old problems in new ways. This is what makes art so important. It benefits the brain by training it to think outside the box. It helps children understand concepts with greater ease. It aids children in getting better grades. In the real world, the artistic side of the brain helps engineers solve problems. It guides individuals to create solutions. Art is the property of fine artists; it is also the product of engineers, technicians and computer designers. Art, in many different ways, helps people make the world a better place. (Grant Eckert)
